Playing in the Currents

Hello friends! I finally have the video from the world premier of my duet for E-flat flutes titled “Playing in the Currents” and have posted it on my YouTube channel.

It was commissioned by Dr. Linda Bailey and performed by Dr. Bailey and Christina Steffen. The first movement “Seagulls” is a slow, meditative piece, inspired by two seagulls drifting in the air together. The second movement, “Dolphins”, has a playful irregular beat and is a “fun splash.”

My piece was one of three commissioned and presented by Dr. Bailey at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention in Washington, D.C. in February this year, on a program she titled “Quirky and Delightful World Premieres for E-flat Flute.” Dr. Bailey has become an advocate for the, indeed quirky, E-flat flute which is sort of between a piccolo and a regular C-flute. To my ear, it sounds kind of like an alto piccolo. Think Minnie Mouse doing a Marlene Dietrich impression. Other composers on the program were Kari Cruver Medina and Alexandra Molnar-Suhajda.

For you flutists out there – sheet music for my duet should be available by the end of April and I will post again when that is ready.
