One of my compositions will be premiered at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention in Feb. 2025. The piece, a duet for E-flat flutes, was commissioned by Dr. Linda Bailey. It’s called “Playing in the Currents” and features two short movements: “Seagulls” and “Dolphins”. “Seagulls” is inspired by two seagulls drifting together, and not quite together, on the air currents above the beach. It is the slower of the two movements, in minor. “Dolphins” is inspired by two dolphins playing in the ocean currents. It features a pulsing irregular meter, is upbeat and joyful.
This is the third premier of my original works. The first was my flute concerto, “Fantasy”, which I performed with the Newport Symphony in December 2021. The second was “2020: The Year We Could Not Breathe“, performed by Anthony Trionfo at the NFA convention in August 2023.
